Rauw Alejandro
In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most-streamed song at the time within the space of six months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music not only brought interest back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish and 2016 saw four. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100 In 2020, there were 41 such songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Then, various artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars such as Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019. In 2020, a few Reggaeton musicians were complaining about the direction of the genre towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation like Rauw Alejandro was determined to maintain the development. Rauw Alejandro incorporated electronic dance forms and other genres into his songs.
